Creating Curiosity is a collaboration between Singapore Repertory Theatre and KidsSTOP™, Science Centre Singapore

Creativity and curiosity are at the heart of scientific investigation and artistic creation.

Specialists in arts integration and science from Singapore Repertory Theatre and KidsSTOP™ collaborate to bring you an immersive learning experience! Children will follow them on an interactive narrative and learn science concepts through hands-on activities that integrate drama, dance and music strategies in these unique workshops.

  1. Growing Greens (Digital Workshop)

Theme: Nature and Plants

Are all things green the same? Venture into the world of plants with us to help uncover the identity of Flora the Plant!

Be immersed in role-play and discover more about the different plant parts, functions and characteristics of our green friends! Children will also get to create their very own planter whilst learning the important factors of what makes plants grow!

Growing Green is a digital workshop, that can be screened remotely in the comforts of your classroom.In this digital workshop, Children will follow an interactive narrative through a series of  videos for an immersive watch-along-and-learn session.

The programme will include:

  • Introduction and Warm Up (Video)

  • Main Storyline (Video)

  • A Guide to the Hands-on Activity (Video)

  • A Science box with materials (The box will be mailed to the centre 5 to 7 working days after project confirmation.)

Growing Greens is tailored for children ages 3 – 6.

Price: $18/ student *Minimum booking of 20 students, price shown is inclusive of GST.

Theme: Puppetry, Light and Shadows

Oh no! A shadow has escaped!

Join us on an adventure to learn about light. Your mission? Complete the quest to find the missing shadow!

Children will learn the science behind shadow play through creative drama narratives and hands-on activities. In this workshop, they will also understand terms such as “opaque”, “translucent” and “transparent”. What’s more they will get to make their own suncatcher too!

Kindly note that this is an in-classroom workshop. Please ensure that a classroom is made available for this session

Kimberly Arriola
Kimberly Arriola

Kimberly is a graduate of the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama with a degree in Drama, Applied Theatre and Education and an alumna of Singapore Polytechnic’s diploma in Applied Drama and Psychology. Kimberly is currently employed as the Learning & Engagement Officer at Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT). Through her time at SRT, Kimberly has worked with communities from different walks of life, such as Little Skool House, iC2 Prephouse, Touch Community Services, and Science Centre Singapore. In this capacity, Kimberly has been able to live out her dream of bringing the arts to all. Kimberly is also a certified Wolf Trap Teaching Artist and is equip in utilising arts integration techniques in the classroom.

Amongst all, Kimberly is also an aspiring playwright. Having staged her first play, Curry Puff, as part of The Twenty Something Theatre Festival.

Yu Chew Peng
Yu Chew Peng

Chew Peng, aka Autumn, is a Science Educator at KidsSTOP™, Science Centre Singapore. She graduated from the National University of Singapore with a BSc. (Hons) in Life Sciences, and enjoys sharing and introducing science concepts to learners of all ages. In her work as a science educator, she develops and conducts STEAM-based workshops for preschoolers to ignite their curiosity and interest in science. Some of the workshops she has helped to develop include Creating Curiosity, an interactive drama-in-science programme done in collaboration with SRT, and STEAM Playshop, a play-based hands-on workshop that encourages children to tinker.

When not at work, Chew Peng loves exploring and sharing the wonderous natural environment around us.
